Collaborative, math-forward STEM projects that students & teachers love

It's time to put the M back in STEM.

In 10story’s STEM projects, students don't do “math problems” . . . they use math as a tool to solve problems they actually care about. Along the way, they discover the true power and relevance of mathematical ideas.

10story provides a pathway for schools to increase the time dedicated to math instruction while making STEM programming more fun and engaging for students.

When they finally got it right, their enthusiasm was heard in the entire school. What a confidence booster!

Our signature STEM project is available in 5th-6th grade (FINDING P.I.P.E.R.) and 6th-8th grade (JOURNEY TO TITAN) versions and covers essential standards in graphing & coordinate geometry:

Use an x and y axis to define a coordinate system

Use the coordinate system to represent real-world problems by graphing points and interpreting coordinate values in the context of a situation.

Convert among different-sized standard measurement units and use these conversions in solving multi-step, real world problems.

Generate two numerical patterns using two given rules. Identify apparent relationships between corresponding terms. Form ordered pairs consisting of corresponding terms from the two patterns, and graph the ordered pairs on a coordinate plane.

The 6th-8th grade version of SPACE ACADEMY also covers:

Understand the concept of a ratio and use ratio language to describe a ratio relationship between two quantities. 6.RP.A.1

Understand the concept of a unit rate a/b associated with a ratio a:b with b is not equal to 0, and use rate language in the context of a ratio relationship. 6.RP.A.2

Use ratio and rate reasoning to solve real-world and mathematical problems. 6.RP.A.3

Use variables to represent two quantities in a real-world problem that change in relationship to one another; analyze the relationship between dependent and independent variables using graphs and tables, and relate these to an equation. 6.EE.C.9

Analyze proportional relationships and use them to solve real-world and mathematical problems. 7.RP.A.1 | 7.RP.A.2 | 7.RP.A.3

Solve real-life and mathematical problems using numerical and algebraic expressions and equations. 7.EE.B.3 | 7.EE.B.4

Solve problems involving scale drawings of geometric figures, including computing actual lengths and areas from a scale drawing and reproducing a scale drawing at a different scale. 7.G.A.1
