Welcome to MEGA MINI GAMES: Design Camp 1! In this warmup activity, students practice using the Mega Building Kit and working as a team.
2: LINE UP
Comparing & ordering fractions
In the first Mega Mini Game, players divide up jobs and build card holders. In Line Up, Players draw & discard to place 5 fraction cards in order.
3: LAUNCHBALL
Adding fractions
After building a Launchball grid, players bounce ping pong balls into targets, trying to cover squares and make 1 whole.

Comparing fractions
Working as a whole class, players generate ideas for game “worlds,” defining settings, goals, and obstacles for their version of GAME X.

Orientation & review
Welcome to MEGA MINI GAMES: Design Camp 2! Students use the design kit and work as a team on a complex fraction building challenge.
2: ROLLERSLIDE
Subtracting mixed fractions
The 1st game at Design Camp 2 uses a long number line and a slider. Players draw a mixed fraction, then try to reach that target on multiple slides.
3: COLLISION
Multiplying fractions by whole numbers
In the 2nd rotation at Design Camp 2, players learn Collision. How many balls can they knock into each shape to activate the multiplier?

4: APEX
Dividing fractions
In the 3rd rotation players slide a puck to one of 2 concentric targets. To score, they’ll divide a fraction by a whole or a whole by a fraction.
5: X-2
Comparing fractions
The designers are ready! GAME X was a major success, and the designers are hard at work on X-2 … but they’re only halfway done. Players get ready to make it their own.
6: THE WORLD OF X-2
Working as a team
It’s time to create a “world” for X-2. The class generates many ideas for settings, goals, and obstacles. At the end of the session, students join their teams for the rest of Design Camp.

Subtracting fractions
FREE. Create a mixed fraction from random draw of whole numbers. Subtract it from 12, then decide whether to risk another draw to try to get closer to zero.
ESCAPE FROM EVEREST
Multiplying whole numbers by fractions
FREE. Working as a team, assemble fraction equations from a set of 5 numbers and try to escape from Everest before nightfall.
MEGA BINGO
All fraction operations
FREE. In this twist on the classic game, players are given a whole number and a fraction. They add, subtract, multiply, and divide them to create 5 options to play on their card.
